Megadeth has scored its first chart-topping album in Australia with the release of their self-titled final record. The album debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA chart, surpassing Olivia Dean's "The Art Of Loving." This marks a milestone for the band, which has previously appeared in Australia's Top 50 eleven times, including three Top 10 entries.
Released on Dave Mustaine's Tradecraft imprint under Frontiers Label Group's BLKIIBLK label, the album follows 2022's "The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!" The band announced on August 14, 2025, that this would be their last studio album and planned a farewell tour for 2026.
Mustaine expressed gratitude to fans and reflected on the band's legacy, noting the significance of ending their career while still at the top. He described the album and upcoming tour as a fitting conclusion to their influential presence in the music world.
The final album was produced with Chris Rakestraw, who also worked on Megadeth’s previous two releases. Finnish guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari, who joined the band over two years ago replacing Kiko Loureiro for touring duties, is part of the current lineup alongside Mustaine, drummer Dirk Verbeuren, and bassist James LoMenzo.
Megadeth, one of the pioneering thrash metal bands, has a rich history dating back to the 1980s. Their previous albums have consistently charted well both in Australia and the U.S., showcasing their enduring influence in metal and rock music.
