Another Year, Another Group Of Mediocre Talent Win At The Golden Gods

Gauntlet Ass Figured I'd address everyone in a single post rather than respond via twitter, facebook and email. I had a lot of people asking yesterday why The Gauntlet wasn't covering the Golden Gods awards like we did the previous four years by sneaking in and making a mockery of it all. Last night, I made the decision to not sneak anyone into the awards, not to reveal the winners days before, or cover live like in previous years.

Over the last four years, I was hoping by exposing the Golden Gods rigged online voting system, celebrating mediocre at best talent, and promoting the true winners (the sponsors) ever 3 seconds the show would change it's ways for the better. With this being the 5th year of the awards show, it seems to be getting worse, if that is even possible.

In what world does Halestorm drummer beat out Deftones Abe Cunningham, Gene Hoglan, and Rush's Neil Peart? Corey Taylor is a great frontman in Slipknot, but he is not a great vocalist. Metal's song of the year goes to Black Veil Brides? David Draiman wins best New Talent award? This isn't metal.

Instead of covering the event, I just protested in silent. I didn't watch the awards, only saw updates from people watching live.

I understand why labels, publicists, and bands support the show. If they are selected to attend, it gives them a big boost in sales. What I don't understand is why journalists and metal sites attend and act like it is a real awards show. They kiss Revolvers ass to get in, kiss publicists asses to cover get on the black carpet. And because of it, Revolver gets to go on announcing winners that don't deserve to win.

I don't understand why it is so hard to celebrate talent.
