Bloodlined Calligraphy Unites Against Cancer
Recently a member of the Facedown Family suffered a great loss. Bloodlined Calligraphy drummer Matt Carter's father, James Thomas Carter, succumbed to lung cancer on May 14, 2006 at the age of 73. He had been fighting the disease for 2 years and was thought to be in remission. The death came as a great shock to the family as it seemed James was taking a turn for the better. According to other members of Bloodlined Calligraphy, James Carter was "without a doubt, [Matt] Carter's best friend in the universe."
Having suffered the pain of watching both of her grandmothers acquiesce to cancer, Ally French (vocalist, BLC) decided to do whatever she could to raise awareness and take a stand against the disease. "After Carter's dad died last week, I was heartbroken," Ally said. "To see the devastation of cancer strike someone so close to me - it really tore me up inside. Bloodlined Calligraphy will never be the same.
"I have decided to take action against cancer by supporting the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life in DeWitt Michigan on June 9th and 10th. I will walk for 24 hours straight in memory of Carter's dad and other cancer victims that have touched my life. As friends and family, we can do something to save lives and help those already fighting this disease."
At the Relay For Life event there will be a memorial luminary ceremony. Glowing white luminary bags will bear the names of those who have lost the battle with cancer and will be placed all around the walking track. Then those who have endured cancer will run the "Survivor's Lap" around the track. "It is a very touching ceremony" says Ally.
Ally coaches a cheerleading team which volunteered to cheer on the survivors as they run their victory lap. "My cheer team is also getting involved as they are all required to attend the event and collect at least $25.00 [in donations] each." Ally has a website dedicated to amassing donations for the Relay For Life. She has a personal goal to raise $300.00. We consider all of our bands to be part of our own family and we were shocked and saddened by Carter's family's loss. We feel the least we can do is spread the word that there is an outlet for emotional healing for the friends and family of cancer victims.
Our hearts go out to the Carter family in their time of sorrow.
