MINISTRY Bows Out: Al Jourgensen Calls It Quits After 40 Years of Industrial Mayhem
In a candid conversation with Hit Parader, Al Jourgensen, the relentless force behind MINISTRY, has announced that the iconic industrial band will hang up their spurs following the release of their swan song, "Hate To Go (Take Out Or Delivery)" on October 30 via Cleopatra Records. With a career spanning four decades, Jourgensen has declared, "I figure it's time. We've taken our genre and this band as far as we can go," marking the end of an era that has shaped the industrial landscape.
Reflecting on the upcoming album, Jourgensen expressed pride in the music, stating, "I'm really happy with this album and I think it's a culmination of 40 years of the same elements." This final chapter represents not just a closing act but a celebration of a legacy that has propelled MINISTRY to the forefront of the industrial scene. However, the frontman admitted to feeling uninspired to continue, sharing, "I don't think the product would be as good if I tried to do another one. So, I think it's the proper time." At 68, his spirit remains fierce, but the desire to explore other interests has taken precedence.
Since its inception in 1981, MINISTRY has been a juggernaut in the industrial music realm, churning out 17 studio albums, eight live releases, and countless tours across the globe. Al Jourgensen's rebellious spirit fueled this behemoth, and as he reflects on his journey, he acknowledges a bittersweet farewell. "I have no regrets looking back on it and everything," he said, reminiscing about the project that spiraled into a monumental career, despite his initial reluctance to step into the limelight.
The forthcoming album showcases a final collaboration with legacy member Paul Barker on the haunting track "We're Still Here," alongside contributions from current bandmates. As if signaling the end of an era, MINISTRY has also announced an international farewell tour dubbed "Goodbye Europe," with special guests DIE KRUPPS kicking off in April 2027. This will be the last chance for fans to witness the industrial titans live, as they hit stages one last time with a setlist that promises to include both new tracks and classic anthems.
From their synth-pop beginnings to the abrasive sound that defined the genre, MINISTRY's evolution has been nothing short of legendary. With seminal albums like "Land Of Rape And Honey" and "Psalm 69," the band not only pushed boundaries but also garnered Grammy nominations, solidifying their place in heavy music history. As the curtains draw on this iconic project, Jourgensen's legacy will undoubtedly continue to resonate within the metal community, leaving behind a trail of industrial chaos that will be remembered for generations.
