Silverchair Get Lifetime Achievement Award
Aussie rocker's Silverchair are happy to be receiving a lifetime achievement award at the Australian MTV Video Music Awards, but they aren't sure why they were chosen. This will be the first time the Austrailian installment of the video award show will be handing out the Video Vanguard award to an Australian in its three year history.
The MTV Video Vanguard Award has been given to artists like Madonna, Michael Jackson and the Red Hot Chili Pepper's in the American version of the awards show. However, Silverchair, who has only released five albums to date, doesn't think they deserve the accolade because they never really enjoyed the art of making music videos.
Bassist Chris Joannou says, "We actually always used to hate making videos. So they should really be giving this award to all those poor directors we've worked with over the years. But MTV have offered the gong to us for some reason so, of course, we are happy to step in now and take all the credit for all their hard work."
The awards will be presented by Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas and Good Charlotte in Sydney this Sunday.
