Nick Barker, known for his work with bands like Dimmu Borgir, Lock Up, and Cradle Of Filth, revealed in 2023 that he is facing serious health challenges due to stage five chronic kidney failure. He has been undergoing hemodialysis since January 2023.
Barker has shared that dialysis sessions occur four times a week, lasting four hours each, which significantly limits his ability to tour, record, or travel. This treatment is essential for keeping him alive while he waits for a kidney transplant.
He has been approved for the transplant list in Vancouver after passing all necessary assessments, but he needs to lose 20 to 30 pounds before surgery can take place. Barker expressed his hope to receive a new kidney later this year.
Due to his current condition, Barker is unable to work and has established a GoFundMe page to seek support from fans. He remains optimistic about returning to the drums once his health improves.
