DEEP PURPLE: No Farewell in Sight, Just Pure Rock Fury!

By Jason
The legends reaffirm their commitment to the stage and studio with the upcoming album 'Splat!'.

In a raw and revealing chat with Dawn Osborne from TotalRock, DEEP PURPLE's legendary keyboardist Don Airey laid waste to any notions of retirement, declaring the band far from done. After their so-called farewell tour in 2017, a sarcastic Ian Paice remarked, 'Thank God that's over,' only for the band to dive headfirst back into the grind. Airey recounted, 'We decided to just be ourselves and make music that keeps the audience happy. And if we don’t, we’ll hear about it.' It’s that devil-may-care attitude that has kept the flame of DEEP PURPLE alive through decades of rock 'n' roll chaos.

As anticipation builds for the impending release of their upcoming album 'Splat!' on July 3 via earMUSIC, Airey revealed the band's short-term focus. 'We don’t plan in the long term,' he explained. 'When we make an album, we commit to making it a good one. When we hit the stage, we aim for greatness, not mediocrity.' This mantra is what fuels their relentless pursuit of excellence, ensuring that their legacy isn’t just preserved but expanded with every riff and note.

In classic Airey fashion, he candidly dissected the duality of the music business, stating, 'It’s half music and half business. If you take care of the music, the business side will take care of you.' It’s a basic, yet profound truth that has allowed DEEP PURPLE to continue crafting albums and rocking stages around the globe. And with rock titan Bob Ezrin at the helm once again, 'Splat!' promises to be the heaviest offering the band has unleashed in years.

So far, fans have been treated to a taste of 'Splat!' with the singles 'Diablo' and 'Arrogant Boy,' the former featuring the blistering talents of Grammy-winner Keith Urban on guitar. The initial reactions have been nothing short of euphoric, with critics heaping praise on the album’s return to form. Uncut hailed it as 'distilled, high-octane PURPLE at its finest,' while Classic Rock celebrated its embodiment of everything that makes DEEP PURPLE a titan of hard rock.

With a whirlwind of European summer dates underway, DEEP PURPLE is set to embark on an epic world tour, hitting 86 shows across 28 countries. 'Splat!' is available for pre-order in various formats, ensuring fans can grab their hands on exclusive items from the official shop. With over 120 million albums sold since their inception in 1968, DEEP PURPLE isn’t just resting on their laurels—they’re redefining what it means to be a rock band, channeling the very spirit that ignited their journey. And at the core of 'Splat!' lies an intriguing vision from frontman Ian Gillan, presenting the end not as destruction, but as a metamorphosis. This album could very well be the catalyst for a new era of DEEP PURPLE.
