SPIRITBOX Unleashes the Haunting New Single 'Mourning'

The trailblazers of modern metal return with gripping emotion and an atmospheric soundscape.

SPIRITBOX, the three-time Grammy nominees and genre-defying force in heavy music, have emerged from the shadows with their haunting new single, "Mourning." Released today via Pale Chord / Rise Records, this track marks the band's first offering since their critically acclaimed sophomore effort, "Tsunami Sea," and tantalizes fans with a taste of what lies ahead.

At the heart of "Mourning" is Courtney LaPlante’s impassioned vocals, which flow like a bittersweet river over a lush, atmospheric production. The song's dynamics traverse delicate, introspective passages that crescendo into a wall of sound, showcasing the band's signature heavy contrasts while exploring a more subdued and contemplative side. As layers of guitar and percussion ebb and flow, LaPlante's ethereal presence remains the anchor, ensuring the essence of SPIRITBOX is palpable throughout.

Accompanying the single is a mesmerizing music video co-directed by Alex Bemis and the band’s own Mike Stringer. Departing from the stark monochrome visuals of the "Tsunami Sea" era, the video plunges viewers into a vibrant natural world, juxtaposing performance scenes against breathtaking landscapes. With a recurring hooded figure lurking ominously, the visuals add a chilling depth to the band’s artistic evolution.

Following the success of "Tsunami Sea," which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Hard Rock Albums chart, SPIRITBOX continues to solidify their status as one of the most innovative forces in contemporary heavy music. With their third Grammy nomination for "Best Metal Performance" for the track "Soft Spine," the band's meteoric rise shows no signs of slowing down.

In addition to their new single, LaPlante has been busy, teaming up with BRING ME THE HORIZON's Oli Sykes and producer Grabbitz for the anthem "If The Sun Burns Out Tonight," set to drop on September 16. Furthermore, she recently announced a signature vocal plugin with MixWave, designed to encapsulate the unique nuances of her powerful voice.

SPIRITBOX is gearing up for an electrifying European tour in September, sharing the stage with JINJER and DYING WISH, including their most significant U.K. headline shows yet at London's OVO Arena Wembley. They will also join METALLICA for a massive show at Mohegan Sun Arena this November, and cap off the year with performances at the Good Things Festival in Australia. With a relentless drive to innovate and captivate, SPIRITBOX continues to push the boundaries of heavy music, leaving an indelible mark on the scene.
