Moonspell Announce New Album Far From God, Release Title Track
Portuguese gothic metal pioneers Moonspell have announced their upcoming studio album *Far From God* and released the record’s title track as the first preview of the new material. The album is scheduled for release on July 3 through Napalm Records and will mark the band’s first full-length studio effort since 2021.
The newly released title track offers a glimpse into the album’s dark and atmospheric direction. Musically, the song leans into Moonspell’s signature gothic metal style, combining heavy guitar riffs with layered keyboards and dramatic melodic passages. The track explores themes of tragic love, existential guilt, and redemption while embracing the romantic darkness that has long defined the band’s sound.
Vocalist Fernando Ribeiro explained that the song was inspired by a renewed fascination with classic gothic horror imagery, particularly the darker and more tragic depictions of vampires found in traditional literature. He noted that the concept reflects the timeless storytelling associated with gothic fiction and its influence on the band’s aesthetic.
The upcoming album was produced by Jaime Gomez Arellano, who is known for his work with several prominent metal acts. According to the band, the production approach for *Far From God* was intended to reconnect with the darker spirit of Moonspell’s earlier work while delivering a powerful modern sound.
Moonspell have stated that the creation of the new record followed a period of reflection and creative uncertainty. Rather than chasing contemporary trends, the band focused on returning to the emotional intensity and gothic atmosphere that originally defined their music.
Formed in Portugal in 1992, Moonspell became one of the most influential bands in gothic metal during the 1990s. Albums such as *Irreligious* helped establish the band’s reputation for combining dark romantic themes with heavy riffs and atmospheric elements, earning them a dedicated global following.
With the release of the title track, Moonspell have begun building anticipation for *Far From God*, which the band describes as a powerful return to their gothic roots and one of the most defining releases of their career.
