Hammerfall Studio Update

By JASON

The following was posted on the bands blog:

"The day started out with shock! breakfast, and then it was straight to work on the first song. Anders was anxious to get started, and he chose a heavy song with a driving beat called Titan. Probably the most heavy metal song on the entire album, actually. For the first time Charlie has heard most of the songs before going into the studio, so he knew what direction we were going and could adjust the sound accordingly. He tried to get the same set-up as last time, because we were all very happy with how that came out. Anders brought the same drums as last time as well, which turned out to be a mix of a couple of kits. Whatever works, as they say...

I made lunch for us today, a mushroom, yellow pepper and sausage omelette. Im not a great cook by any stretch, but the dishes I know I do often enough to have learned how to make them decent. At least they didnt complain. Yet.

Next song was Rebel Inside, another pretty slow and heavy one, and also the song Im writing all by myself for this album. Thats right, folks, its not a ballad this time! Its a quite easy song to play through, but so are most AC/DC songs. And, let me tell you, it takes a great drummer to do the easy stuff because its very difficult to keep the beat steady and grooving. In a fast song, you can get away with small tempo mistakes since its harder for the human ear to hear all the details. In a song like this, its immediately noticeable. But, as usual, Anders showed why he is a such a heralded skin-beater, the result is awesome!

The final song for today was to be Threshold, a triplet track with a good pace and a catchy chorus. However, due to some computer malfunctions and telephone calls there were to be no more playing today. We hung out in front of the TV watching Jackass - what an unbelievably great show that is! - and an old ice-hockey game until it was time to go to sleep."
