iPod tax proposed by Japanese music industry
Industry executives manipulate government in a move to regain profits...
Japanese music industry heads have asked their government to begin placing a tax upon Apple iPods and other digital music players in order to counter sluggish music sales.
Revenues from the proposed taxation would be funneled toward record labels and artists as a counterbalance to Internet music piracy.
The proposed legislation has sparked public debate in Japan, which harbors the world's second largest economy, after the US.
Currently, the proposal remains stalled in an uninterested Japanese government committee.
