Autumn again casts her spell
As fleshy fall finds natures beds
Leaves aflame with hues of hell
Yellows, oranges, browns and reds
For all her passion, fervor, fire
Smoldering upon each tree
Not one fruit bearer holds desire
Carries a torrid torch for me
I watch them wilt and wither
Darken, droop and petrify
Slow as syrup, drop and slither
Leaves let go, flames flicker and die
Despite her seductive return
Fall’s cold shoulder turns my way
Gangrene leaf recoils, no one’s chosen spoils
I’m left for winters frigid stay
The sedentary deep
Enshrouds me like slumber
In hazy shadowed dream
A lurid dance in black covering
Woeful haunting wail
Echos throughout the night
in baleful fog drinking forest light
As she drags me under the veil
