Rising waves snap the masts
holes in hull through tentacles grasp
water in lungs, met at the eye
heeding the screeches of crustaceans cry
Sirens sang us to our death
revealing a world that we never left
hidden beneath reflecting light
starting anew in this watery life
Eyes of vermilion rise from the deep
gargantuan molluscs swallowed the sea
the prehistoric have eaten us whole
leaving our colonies for tales to behold
Asphyxiating, we surface our gills
shredding through the skin
drowning out the memories
of what could, and would, have been
The flooding of forests, the cries of the trees
the end of our people, to sea-beasts we plea
forgetting our lifeforms, embracing the sea
rebuilding our cities within the deep
