Iesus Christus Tristis ad mortem Sanguis cadit A capite Tuo He went down to pray, “Let this pass from Me.” The cup of God's wrath Is tilted to pour They all said they won't deny Him They all said they'd give their lives But then He prayed, and He came back to them His best friends lay fast asleep It was clear That He must be The spotless, chosen Lamb To die for this wretched race “Father, Your will be done If I must drink this cup.” Iesus Christus, Tristis ad mortem Sanguis cadit A capite Tuo He stood alone Praying for us Intercessor, He loved us to death After He woke them He asked them that they'd stay up with Him “Don't enter temptation. Watch and pray that you may stand The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak and failing.” Then He went A second time to ask the Father That He may be spared But still knew that the cup must be drunk The cup of God's wrath is tilted to pour Will it be Him or the whole of this wretched race? Their sin so great To give life freely, there must be payment Love so vast His church to buy is chosen to last “Glorify your Son that He May glorify You with those You've saved And this is the eternal life To know You, the true God, and Me, whom You sent Sanctify them and protect them from the Evil One You have sent Me, so I send them out into the world And for their sake, I give Myself that they may be changed To bear Your image and Your love, that We may live within them To know Your name, to know Your love, just as You know Me.” Then He rose and knew He'd be the one To drink the cup of God's wrath To die like human scum He will suffer “See the hour is at hand The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners Rise, let us be going See, my betrayer is at hand.”
