A crown of lilies adorned her flaxen head She carried with her all the pain All the pity all the joy all the envy The love and woe and wont of the world She walked alone into the shallow water Lead by the sombre midsummer night’s tone A veil of tears streamed down her face As she left behind the flittering shadows Of a broken world A V of raptors in the glistening sky bear witness And trees showed the only remorse as the willows moaned Another bride of sacrifice, nobody’s friend, nobody’s daughter A phantom walks with her in the waste deep water Will you dare walk with me? Where I walk alone? A v in an ethereal bow, the phantom’s lip quivers I will walk with you, and I will lead you astray, I will lead you away The weight of the world washes up on a far bank A row of white lilies ‘neath her feet A pallor like a moonstone gleamed Gradually regaining fervour The very breath she took was like her first As she left it all behind
