Onslaught of his weapons has no equal

None will rival

Despotic behavior angered the gods

Strength be challenged

Enkidu brought forth to defy our king

Tame Enkidu

Lead forth the whore

Strength will diminish

Wisdom attained

Gilgamesh and Enkidu

Together now stand

Pine Forest they will venture

To slay Humbaba, guardian of the land

Ominous dreams they had

Humbaba knew of their presence

Gilgamesh, ax in hand

Chopped at the forest

Who has injured the trees

Who has felled the cedars

Sword struck its neck

Humbaba fell, dead

Dream foreshadows death

Enkidu falls by the hands of the angered gods

Gilgamesh

Fear of death overcomes might and strength

Immortality

He seeks through Utnapishtam

Let me not see

The death which I ever dread

Everlasting life, unattainable

Death until eternity, inevitable

Gilgamesh, king of heroes

Returned to Uruk a wiser man
