The Ride of Heroes Lyrics

A breaking sight

It feels like daydreaming up there

Gliding with might

Over my valleys, my dear woods and lakes

Risking my life doing whatever it may take

Ears to the engine, eyes to the horizon

Upon the mountains the sun is now shining

My plane is all set, steady in my hands

I fight for my country to take back our lands

Then, out of the sun

The enemy aircraft appears

The hunt has begun

Soon I see another one right under my tail

It’s two against one now and I have to prevail

Turn to the left, fall in a dive

Spinning around for dear life

Jump in the cloud, point to the ground

Shut off the engine and glide

Finally firing my shells

I'm flying on a thin line

Between heaven and hell!

Fly fly fly

Up to the skies

Fly fly fly

They call me a hero

But who wants to be?

No glory, no honor

But horrors and grief

Towards the ride of heroes

Over three years now, and I could go home

But I won't be leaving my brothers alone

The prancing black horse is needed up there

We are squad ninety-first, we are the knights of the air

Like aces we fly, through the tides of this war

A peaceable future is worth fighting for

The blood of our soldiers is painting the land

But the solstice is coming, and the goal is at hand

The slaughter continues no matter the cost

And the old sense of chivalry seems to be lost

The artillery's roaring, the flashes of guns

Through towers of black smoke

That blot out the sun

We're endlessly flying over the enemy lines

And each time it's harder

To come back and survive

Surrounded by shrapnels

It takes just one mistake

As I watch for the last time

My valleys and lakes

Then it’s just fire and flames

The fate of a hero, the name of the game!

The ride of the heroes

To fly and be free

A legend of bravery for all to see

They call me a hero

But who wants to be?
