A warrior of mighty stature Stood before them Clad from head to toe In shining mail of bronze Goliath was his name He struck fear among the people And day be fay the giant Taunted the soliders of the Lord None had the courage To face this man on the battlefield Save for a shepherd boy His people called him David He had slain a lion and a bear In his youthful age He feared the Lord And he was strong in his faith David answered the challenge Of the mighty Phillistine He wore no armor Nor did he bring shield or blade But he approached the giant With nothing but sling and stones Answered the call As men of Israell watched in fear Lo! Goliath mocked the boy as he approached "Am I a dog that you face me with stick?" The giant cursed the young boy by his pagan gods And swore to feed his flesh to the hungry birds You fight against me, with weapons wrought of iron But I fight against you in the name of the Lord Goliath rushed forth to slay the future king But David showed no fear, but readied his sling He launched a stone into the giant's forehead It sank into his skull, and he crumpled dead With his own sword, the giant's head was severed And David held it high for every eye to see All of Israel's foes, fled the field of battle And the camp of the enemy was plundered Let those who mock God tremble in fear None can stand against those who walk in faith Let this be known to heathens far and wide Our God is second to none Second to none
