clung to a single day perpetual

inheriting a new existence, that of a waking dream

as cognizance is foiled by times insidious passing

wrinkles etched by experience becoming smoother

dissolving tangibility gives way to raw emotion

consciousness is shattered into fragments like glass

transparent yet jagged

slicing away found memories

feeble attempts to keep whole

immured in ones own mind

eyes once sharp and eager

now dulled by confusion

we all rush to grow only to falter into ages trappings

a vile disease becomes destroyer of our sanity

clinging to the fraying remnants of this reality

falling victim to an altering chemistry

leaving one to wander

alone in this internal Brueghelian horror-scape

engulfing perception confinement as sickness erases them

degrading synaptic plasticity

witnessing ones own demise peering through tiny pinholes

all we've ever known seeps into the black as its surrounding

cast away in vast ocean of white noise

treading barely head above the din

transfixed by the faces that appear from just below the surface

and dissolve as the current draws back into uncertainty

caught in the rip to eventually drown

while eroding the shores of rationality

that was once only haven

any hopes fade quickly with no solution in sight

all we hold dearly becoming unrecognized

illness prevails against recollection as only fear shines through this veil of dementia
