In time when all around sleep snow feel so many days.

Only forest giants rise above the snowdrifts.

Cold made beasts to hide in holes

And blocked with snow their scents.

Unwelcomed guest appeared here, he named a hungryness

Howl of hungry wolfs sometime was heard the human beings.

And hunters tried to get even grain of food

‘cause crying of the hungry childe was much more fearful.

When powers of people out came

Magician of tribe had collected

The hunters at fire and said, “Hour has come to decide.

This is fairyrod, touch it and success

Be with you but never take heart of hunted beast!”

Everyone touched the rod and went to hunt in wood…

Skagady made one’s way through thicket and was lynx.

Blow was exactly… Ignoring magician decree

He took heart of hunted beast,

“Hungry pursued me so many days!

And who’ll know about it?

Skagady reached home at dawn. Other hunters came back

Without any catching prey. “Someone infringed the ban

And magic was broke,” they said.

At Skagady’s house they found a lynx without heart.

That’s why tribe exiled him to live in forest alone.

Many days elapsed. Hungry took Sagrady’s dreams

And once through the night whisper reached his ears:

- If you want to return magic of the fairyrod

You must kill the bear in cave sleeping under pine!

Kill the bear and tribe will say, “We are forgiving you!”

At morning Skagady completed an order of unknown person.

He came back, collected hunters and said,

“Magic was return, touch the rod -

Success will always be with you!”

And every hunter touched it and went to hunt in wood…

One night voice which Skagady knew

Waked him and be heard silent words:

- Bear which was destroied

Was malicious ghost of this place.

Magic was return when you broak the evil spell!

Skagady asked, “But who are you?”

“Master of the wood…”
