When the devil arrived

He gave a false sense of warmth

Not knowing they’d burn

They’d burn in his fire

The nights they danced are over

Now they float without a sound

not to disturb the beast

This is not the way it should have been

Her mother’s screams pierce the night

In dark corners she weaves 

Blood stains the patterns of light

Shadows lurk beyond her door

Time drags on, in days that never end

Shrouded in darkness, will they shine again?

A mother that’s broken, her daughter unspoken.

The light in their hearts, now dimmed every day 

They suffer in torment and cannot get away

Desperate to hold on and live another day

Autumn in tears, holds her mother in fear

Praying to God his end’s already near

Needle and thread is all she wields 

while locked in her own mind

Words cannot escape 

Freedom is nowhere in sight

as she prays 

she prays for his death 

Locked in alone they peer outside

Unknown to the world the hell inside

Put on a smile to shield their scars

What’s lost in the fire is who they are 

Trembling hands that sow

Woven are her words for all to know 

Their prayers to God went unanswered 

Strength is all but lost now
