Collectively afflicted with apathy

And lacking all sense of empathy

We turn instead to vanity

Can we return?

Obsession a social leprosy

Negating all hope of privacy

When left alone to our own devices

We seek to uncover each other's vices

Should we return

In expressing who we are?

Is this just our natural progression?

When those who live life with purposeful passion

Their flames are snuffed by pointless aggression

Spiraling us further into regression

Will you be burned?

Some will come to the assumption

Society is plagued by consumption

Wasting away before our very eyes

Witness our spirit's demise

When will we learn

Right from wrong?

Have we gone too far

In repressing what we are

Within our primal hearts?

Gaze upon the Mourning Star
