Lusting for an organism in whom to multiply

But first must find a host

To reproduce rapidly, to reign with resistance to human medicine

Female Anopheles albimanus plays the part of the carrier on the ecological stage

Unbeknownst it becomes like a commensal symbiont

To malaria

It feels no pain, it only thirsts for the sanguinary veins

Of a human

To feed itself and its young

Puncturing the skin, saliva mixing in

With the blood its consuming

In the saliva contains the parasite

No longer in need of its vector tonight

Ready to reek havoc and proliferate

To rage rampantly and annihilate

The erythrocytes

Spread...spreading through survival of the fittest

(Time passes—the single cell creature bides in dormancy)

In the new host it begins to multiply

Adsorption onto red blood cells, injection-their demise

Force the cell to generate more pathogen

Only to then slaughter it and repeat the process over again

High fever begins to burn the insides

Sensation the organs almost liquified

Juxtaposed with cold shivering chills

The agony makes you question your will (to live)

Immune system weakened, lymph nodes have fallen prey

It’s only the nature of the parasite’s malignant survival ways

It resists destruction by introduction of medicine, it has no total cure

Mutations pay in spades the continuation of this plague

Dormancy—now the damage’s done

As the parasite awaits

For the next vector to come

As its host meets their decay

...Soon, a new cycle has begun

As the old one meets its grave.
