The Anzacs Lyrics

When Britain declares war on them

We Respond

As do we!

To defend the Old country

To the Motherland we will pledge

Our last Man

Our everything

Down to our final schilling

Adventure appeals to them

So they sign

The dotted line

Blind to the horror that awaits

With NZ boys they’re on to ships

And Sail to

The Pyramids

They’re anointed The Anzacs

First

Assignment

Was

To Tackle

The Turks in Gallipoli

Land

In a cove

In April

1915

With no idea of

The immediate

Danger that they’re in

Through thorny scrub

Up rocky heights

Ambush begins

Over

The coming days

Kilometres

Of trenches made

Sniper Fire

And shelling

Denying them

From Advancing

Bullets whistle past their ears now

Withdraw our troops

From the fields

Exit from Gallipoli

Many men not coming home

Even more now lay in beds

Wounded, Shattered

Broken men

The fit move on to fight once more

In Palestine, deployed again

The western front

As well in France

To defeat the German force

During day and night they fought

To preserve

Our way of Life

To these brave men we owe it all

INVOKE THEIR SPIRIT!

They went to war – To defend us

They went to war – For our freedom

They went to war – And gave their own lives

They went to war – We will remember them!
