The Virginia-based three-piece known as Project: Failing Flesh forge a powerful union and impressive recording with their debut, A Beautiful Sickness. Featuring vocalist/bassist Eric Forrest (Voivod, E-Force), guitarist Tim Gutierrez , and instrumentalist/producer Kevin 131, the album is an ambitious and surely impressive initial offering from a unit showing much poise and promise.
Metal Observer says of A Beautiful Sickness, "it's about time we got some innovation into the Death Metal movement. There's nothing more thrilling than reviewing music that's tricky to define, I like a challenge and this album really puts me to the test." Brave Words Bloody Knuckles says, "the band rage with perfection."Metal Coven adds, "an excellent mix of styles and a band that isn't afraid to show its influences. The sound is huge."
Forrest replaced Voivod vocalist Snake for 1995's Negatron, 1997's Phobos and 2000's Kronik (all recently reissued by Candlelight) before leaving the band after a devastating touring accident (Forrest laid comatose for 8 days). Eric began a new project, E-Force, showing that his musical interests spanned the various styles of metal. This interest is again showcased in the unique instrumentation and arrangements found on Project: Failing Flesh's A Beautiful Sickness. With Tim Gutierrez, Kevin 131 (recently completing production duties for Deceased), the record takes one on a journey likened to those fans of Voivod have long come to admire and respect.
Germany's Walls of Fire says of A Beautiful Sickness, "a violent industrialized thrash/death metal breed incorporating elements reminding of Voivod, Meshuggah and Fear Factory." Recorded at Assembly Line Laboratories, the album features the band's alteration of Venom classic "Warhead."
