Genres
One of the first punk/metal fusion bands, Corrosion of Conformity (C.O.C. for short) were formed by guitarist Woody Weatherman in the early '80s. They built up a cult following with 1984's Animosity, but personnel shifts in 1986 led to their being dropped by their label. It took several years for a new lineup to come together, but 1991's Blind increased their audience by leaps and bounds. The band's current lineup features Weatherman, guitarist/vocalist Pepper Keenan, bassist Mike Dean, and drummer Reed Mullin. C.O.C. is known for its aggressive sound, intelligent political lyrics, and willingness to break away from both hardcore and metal conventions on records including 1994's Deliverance and 1996's Wiseblood.
