"Solitude drowns our souls - hearts are freezing, longing for warmth - despair covers everything - suddenly: a small red glooming flame breaks through the darkness, awakes us with a kiss and relieves our pain - guides us into the sweet embrace of the night. DARKWELL is the celebration of dark sensualism"
DARKWELL was formed in early 1999 in order to create live and profound Gothic Metal. All the band members came already possessed experience as musicians and brought their own know-how to the project: Each had his own recipe for inspiring liveliness in the music and compose strong and mature arrangements.
In 1999, DARKWELL signed a recording deal with Austrian label Napalm Records, and in March 2000 they began recording their debut "Suspiria". They coupled fragile, yet powerful, female vocals with pounding guitars and pressing bass lines. Shortly after entering the studio, the five went on tour with labelmates Tristania and The Sins of Thy Beloved. This tour was the beginning of a long line of live performances to come: They were booked for the Wave Gothic Treffen even before releasing their first record, and went on to play many more shows, finally completing a tour in support of Graveworm and Vintersorg.
In 2002, DARKWELL completed the MCD "Conflict of Interest". Once again they united the already characteristic dark sound with the angelic and feminine voice of Alexandra P. The CD contains an expressive cover version of Tanita Tikarams endless sad "Twist in my Sobriety. The success of the MCD helped in obtaining a co-headlining tour with Ashes you leave, a headlining tour across the Netherlands, as well as festival gigs at Eurorock, Skeleton Bash and 666-Festival.
In 2003, DARKWELL parted ways with vocalist Alexandra, as personal and musical difficulties arose and remained unresolved, but wasted no time in searching for her replacement, which they found in Stephanie, an expressive and powerful voice.
After few rehersals, Stephanie overwhelmingly passed her glorious live debut with flying colors at the Wave Gothic Treffen. She enchanted the audience with her energetic live show and bewitched those who made their way to Summer Breeze 2003. It was then clear that her sex appeal and hot-tempered show set the stage on fire.
DARKWELL's latest CD "Metatron" is a fusion of fire and and the dark of night. The strong and womanly voice centers the sweeping compositions that enlist the support of rocking guitars, an unrelentless bass, and the challenging drum lines. "Metatron" is a homage to the feminine magic of Gothic Metal and takes the listener into a world of bittersweet desires and delicious seduction.
