Mass Murder Phenomena was formed in the fall of 2010 by Ryan Boehm and Craig Kilo. Their simple goal was to make crushing metal that people could drink beer and headbang to. They wrote their first song, Unholy Rapture, with that goal in mind and haven’t looked back since.

MMP became a four piece after acquiring Steve Walker on bass and Nick Iammarino on drums. The band first recorded a two song demo in their basement and followed it up seven months later with their first EP, Necrotrophic. They have played all around Cleveland and their brutal live show continues to be a solid draw. MMP has played shows with local legends Fistula and Soulless and they have opened for national acts Krallice, Withered, Jungle Rot and the mighty Immolation.

Their sound is a collection of individual tastes rather than a focus on genre. Ryan’s vocals were raised on Max Cavalera era Sepultura. Craig’s rhythm guitar reeks of old school sludge, thrash and doom. Steve’s fingers pluck away at his bass with ease and just looking at him makes one question their metaltude. Nick’s drums pummel the listener with Mastodon-like tom rolls and his sense of groove accents Craig’s riffs perfectly.

Some would say they are old school, but they’re not nostalgic. Some would say they are death metal, but Ryan’s vocals are mostly understandable. Kyle from Incantation said they sounded like old school Tiamat, so you can judge them on that. In the band’s eyes, Mass Murder Phenomena is simply metal. You drink beer and headbang to it.
