"'The Lair of the White Worm' is an album that shows a renewed band on a much higher level than the highly acclaimed 'Into the Lungs of Hell' album. The songs are more extreme in two ways; more intense melodies and more brutality at the same time. The idea of the title of the album is based on Bram Stoker's book of the same name. It's a quite unknown story and it was fun to use it for our new album.
The number of guitar leads on this album has increased to about 17, compared to 5 on the previous album. This is mainly because of our new guitar player Isaac Delahaye, who brought in highly skilled techniques and feeling. Varying from leads that fit to the brutal songs to Arch Enemy-like melodic leads, sometimes with great harmonies. Further we saw the coming of a new bass player named Henk "Henke" Zinger, who showed himself as a devoted musician with loads of energy.
The lyrics on the new album deal with a variety of topics such as nihilistic, historical and movie-like themes.
Everybody who thought the band would continue the 'Into the Lungs of Hell' way, and feared the band would fall asleep will definitely wake up after listening to songs such as 'Nihilism', 'The Lair of the White Worm', 'Loyal to the Crown of God Dethroned' to name a few. Intensity and variety are the key words for God Dethroned's music in 2004 and further..." (Henri Sattler)
Main man Henri Sattler formed GOD DETHRONED in 1990. After one demo they released their debut album "The Christhunt" in 1992 on a tiny German label. Due to problems with the other band members and the record company, Henri decided to split the band. He then formed Ministry Of Terror, a Thrash Metal band, and released the "Fall Of Life" album with them in 1994. After a European tour Henri left the band and re-formed GOD DETHRONED. With new band members and better songs in his back, Henri and the new GOD DETHRONED recorded "The Grand Grimoire" and inked a deal with Metal Blade. Many successful tours followed in Europe, the U.S. and Japan with great Death and Black Metal acts like Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Immortal, and Marduk, just to name a few.
In the meantime most of the renowned festivals were played: Dynamo Open Air, Wacken, Graspop and Summer Breeze. However, not everything went smooth. Drummer Roel Sanders left the band after the US tour promoting "Bloody Blasphemy". Nile's Tony Laureano played on the "Ravenous" album, but couldn't stay for obvious reasons. Janne from The Crown played on the tour and finally new drummer Ariën van Weesenbeek came in, whose first recording experience with the band was "Into the Lungs of Hell". The press around the globe received this album very well and again the band toured around Europe and played more festivals like Party San and Summer Breeze.
Bassist Beef and guitar player Jens didn't have the motivation any more to keep on touring and playing, so they decided to call it quits after about 8 years. About 2 months before the recording of "The Lair of the White Worm" bass player Henk joined the band, and 2 weeks before the recording axe-man Isaac came in. The result: an intense new album. Loads of variety, highly skilled musicianship, and cool songs!
GOD DETHRONED already started promoting the new album by playing festivals (Occultfest) and shows in the Benelux and Germany. After the release of the album the band will hit the road on a much larger scale, because it's about time to play The States and Japan again soon.
