Brutal, no nonsense shows. That is what fans of hardcore thrive on most of all. And Biohazard knows what their fans want and aren't afraid to give it to them. For nearly ten years, hardcore fans all over the world have related to Biohazard's songs about pollution, racism, corruption, greed, envy, and the other injustices of the world, whether they're from the band's hometown of Brooklyn or the chaos ridden streets of eastern Europe. Biohazard shows are the rating system used by hardcore fans to measure the intensity of other shows. Other shows can reach a certain level but none can surpass the sheer ferocity of live Biohazard concerts.
No Holds Barred is the perfect title for Biohazard's first live album, capturing the positive energies that flow from the band and their fiercely loyal fans. Clocking in at just over an hour, NHB is 63 minutes of pure anger and fury about the pain of life and the trials and tribulations that surround all of us each and every day. NHB spans Biohazard's four crushing albums, including such tracks as "Authority" from Mata Leao to the hardcore classic, "Wrong Side Of The Tracks," as well as their cover of Black Sabbath's "After Forever" which was featured on the Black Sabbath Tribute album, Nativity In Black.
It seems like whenever a band puts out a live album, it's as polished as a studio album with a canned audience cheering and crystal clear production. These other live albums lack the feeling and passion of the live experience, sugar coated for easy digestion. No Holds Barred was recorded as raw and uncensored as Biohazard's message because the truth in their message is anything but candy coated and easy to digest. This album also reflects the loyalty Biohazard feel towards their fans by giving them the opportunity to relive the Biohazard live experience over and over again.
What people don't realize is that seeing a Biohazard concert isn't like going to your ordinary run of the mill show. People don't dance around in silly circle pits holding hands or wave their arms from side to side. The combination of Biohazard's marauding hardcore and their fans' high octane dancing are like a full contact sport complete with a soundtrack. "A lot of people see Biohazard as a negative thing," says drummer Danny Schuler, "but the funny thing is we've always prided ourselves on being positive. They see the shows, the kids dancing, diving off balconies, the craziness, and they mistake it for a violent negative energy, when in fact, it's a very intense positive energy."
The twenty tracks that make up No Holds Barred are short and to the point, never wasting time with useless fluff or filler. Biohazard shows have been known to attract many different types of people from varied musical backgrounds, everyone from hardcore to metal to straight up hip hop. Their songs reach out universally and embrace those people whose lives have been anything but easy and gives them the opportunity to be with those that feel the same way. Says bassist/vocalist Evan Seinfeld, "This is a special thank you from the band to all our fans who understand the live experience that is a Biohazard show. A Biohazard show is not a regular show--it's a spiritual, tribal ceremony. We live in backstage rooms and tour buses, hotel rooms and vans. But when we take the stage, the fans vibe off our energy and give it back to us--the fans make it all worthwhile. The audience is the reason we do what we do." This is the Biohazard experience--loud and in your face, up close and personal. NO HOLDS BARRED--nothing else even comes close.
