Arch Enemy, In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Children Of Bodom. Many a band from Sweden have popped into an over-saturated market the past few years, however few have drawn more praise and adoration than the young versatile thrashers SOILWORK. Their 1998 debut album, Steel Bath Suicide, exploded onto the European extreme metal scene with a vengeance, immediately bringing plenty of attention to the band. Expanding on the foundation that their peers have set, SOILWORK are poised to step into a realm that could easily vault them further than any of their fellow countrymen. Now the sextet are set to release their newest creation, the bolder and more dynamic The Chainheart Machine. Each member of SOILWORK had played in various bands before joining forces and recording their first demo (In Dreams We Fall Into The Eternal) in early summer '97, but it was obvious early on that there was something very special about this union. Later the band decided on adding a keyboard player to the camp, and soon SOILWORK found a bass player who met the band's high standards, resulting in the current line-up. Influenced by the likes of Carcass and At The Gates, as well as Judas Priest, Accept and MSG, SOILWORK have created the ultimate fulfillment for fans of all extreme metal styles. Combining sharp and rapid-paced death metal with a great sense of melody and dynamics, SOILWORK showed more maturity and conviction on their debut, Steel Bath Suicide, than most of today's larger and more established underground acts. As the news and notes of the band's work reached various parts of the world, the band themselves increased their convictions and abilities, hence bringing us the masterpiece that is The Chainheart Machine. It is writing and playing such as this that inspires and enthuses young musicians to get out and bring something new to the worldwide metal scene. The Chainheart Machine takes the notorious "Gothenburg sound" to higher and more exciting levels instead of plodding along with the same flare and momentum as the rest of its peers, resulting in an album that will delight many a variety of metal fans. Their speed and quickness will entice fans of thrash, their melodies will bait the breath of Maiden bangers, and the sheer harshness of their songs will please everyone who's a fan of death and/or underground metal. SOILWORK have hardly began to test the waters of their creative imaginations, and The Chainheart Machine is an early exclamation point in the careers of these young metal warriors. The album's masterful production, courtesy of Fredrik Nordstrom (In Flames, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity) and Studio Fredman, brings out all aspects and characteristics of this talented six-piece. From the intense and frantic title-track opener to the faded ending of "Room No. 99", The Chainheart Machine is an intense and precisely-tuned metal juggernaut, with little room in between tracks to gather yourself for the next one. This will surely be one of the big metal surprises for the new Millennium...
