MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER aim to kidnap your musical imagination with "II", their highly anticipated new album, and Ferret Music debut.
The date is January 16, 1935. After a twenty-year spree of organized crime, mayhem, and murder, Ma Barker lies slain from a shootout with authorities in a backwoods cabin just outside of Ocala, Florida. In her bloody hand she clenched her Tommy-gun as she exhaled her last breath, a picture of perfect justice as one of the last organized crime bosses of the 20th Century. She and her four sons, who comprised the Barker-Karpis Gang, had purged a path of infamy throughout the South that would not soon be forgotten. And though many would have her story be silenced, some tales speak even louder from the grave... Years passed. Decades came and went. Generations handed down the tale of Ma Barker and her sons as a warning to wrongdoers across the Southern United States. Eventually the story would reach an Ocala youth named Dallas Taylor, who was both impacted and haunted by the tale throughout his childhood. So much so, in fact, that he was led to create his own crew of insurgents in the wake of Ma's legacy, 70 years later. You will come to know them as MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER.
Formed in 2004 in Birmingham, Alabama, MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER immediately began composing songs and touring the southern U.S. In 2005, MAYLENE released their self-titled debut on Mono Vs Stereo Records. Tours alongside acts such as P.O.D., Throwdown, Zao and as part of the 2006 VANS Warped Tour (where MAYLENE was named as one of the tour's breakthrough acts), honed both the band's much-talked about live show, and stunning technical prowess. In April, 2006 the band signed to Ferret Records and the songs that would comprise their full length follow up began to take shape. On their brilliantly upsized sophomore release "II", MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER expound on the true tales of 1920's gangster Ma Barker and her prohibition era real-life crime family, pushing the ingredients from their critically acclaimed, self-titled debut toward a more complex assault. A criminally formidable musical gang, MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER is six assassins united as heavy music's new "Public Enemy Number 1".
Running wild with a monolithic three guitar assault and a metronomic rhythm section, MAYLENE's hit men unleash furious fire, while lead kingpin Dallas Taylor's (ex-UNDEROATH) salty rock croon and smoky bar room swagger dispatches gripping lyrical lore with a wholly original, powerful narrative delivery. Gritty musical shootouts filled with intricate guitar riffing and whiskey drenched grooves hold your ear at ransom, while lyrics take your imagination back to a time when the exploits of gangs of criminals gripped the American people and press.
Prior to the release of "MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER "II", the band will issue a digital EP via Ferret entitled "The Day Hell Broke Loose At Sicard Hollow". The EP will be available on February 6 and will contain the new MAYLENEŠ tracks "Dry the River" and "Don't Ever Cross a Trowel" (from the March 20th release, "II") as well as the previously unreleased song "Is That a Threat or a Promise?". Anticipation for the new MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER album is such that the release has already been named one of Alternative Press' 2007 "Most Anticipated Albums" and the band as one of AP's 2007 "Bands You Need to Know!". Further reinforcing MAYLENE's multi-genre appeal, the band has been named as one of METAL HAMMER Magazine's "Hot 100: Metal's Most Important Troops for 2007".
MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER push complex, heavy music forward with fearless innovation, an uncanny songwriting sense and a bottomless pool of raw talent and creativity, blurring the lines between metal and swampy, sweaty Southern rock. These young guns will hit the road in support of "II" for the whole of 2007, moving city to city, hideout to hideout, to spread the word: MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER is not only one of heavy music's most exciting new bands, it's an attitude.
