Jakarta brutal Death Metal first convened during February 1998 as VILE. The initial line up comprised of vocalist Dedi, bassist Ade, guitar player Bimo Morbid and drummer Anto. Dedi lasted the duration of their inaugural gig and was swiftly replaced by ex-SADISTIS man Sapto. Early gigs would see VILE wearing their American Nu-Death Metal influences proud performing cover songs by the likes of CRYPTOPSY, DEEDS OF FLESH and DYING FETUS.

The line up changed for second time with the introduction of bassist Edwin and drummer Ghebes, recording a cassette release for the Jakarta based Dementia Records. However, after these recordings VILE replaced Sapto with Fahmi Haraif, previously known for his bass work with IMPIOUS in January of 2000. A heavy gigging schedule ensued after which Ghebes relinquished his position in early 2001 to Andyan Gorust of SIKSAKUBUR. Yet another switch in frontman shortly after put TRAUMA's Nino Aspiranta at the microphone stand.

With this new formation VILE cut a cassette album 'Systematic Terror Decimation' for the local Edelweiss Productions label. These tapes were subsequently licensed to the Dutch Displeased label, adding three extra tracks featuring Haraif on lead vocals. Due to the presence of the American VILE the Indonesians opted for a name change to ABSOLUTE DEFIANCE.
