ViTAMiN F...a name becoming more and more familiar to those on the metal/hardcore scene with each passing day. In more recent times, like say the past year or so, you can find ViTAMiN F gracing the pages of worldwide publications such as Metal Edge and Livewire as well as numerous fanzines and webzines. Why? Because this band refuses to be ignored. So what makes ViTAMiN F special in a world of infinite garage bands and undeserving signed acts? PERSEVERANCE.
How? It starts with dedication. ViTAMiN F are constantly trying to reach people with their music. Sometimes it requires getting into the van and taking a chance on a gig 300 miles away. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't, but it is persistence and the fervor for delivering music with meaning that drives the band. Some recent achievements for ViTAMiN F include performances at South By Southwest '98 and Milwaukee Metalfest XII; two of the country's largest music conferences to start. Then add to that shows with many national acts like Stuck Mojo, Skinlab, Living Sacrifice, Fall From Grace, Pro-Pain, Pissing Razors and Hatebreed to name a few. Mix in a more than 25 week stay (and counting) on Pig Radio of Canada's Top 10. Sprinkle on a flood of websites containing VF info, music, video and links and you have a recipe for a band that works hard to reach people.
So what about the music? ViTAMiN F deliver hard-driving grooves with bi-polar melodic vocals with a positive meaning. It is a lyric-type that seems to have slipped through the fingers of today's self-pitying hard-music genre. ViTAMiN F feel compelled to bring it all back in a new way. Some subjects of songs attack issues on dealing with spiritual conflicts, relationships and consequences of indulgence. It's music with depth. I mean, what good is a vitamin if it doesn't give you something good in return?
With or without label support, ViTAMiN F surges on. The band uses not only music skills, but forges ahead with self produced promo materials and just street-wise common sense. Marcello (the band's drummer) flexes his communication skills in writing and phoning people all over the country to network for shows while Reno (guitarist, backing vocals) edits, directs and produces the band's videos and newsletters. John (lead vocals and bass) creates web pages for the band as well as working on the band's newsletters and mailing list. This is not a band that sits around doing nothing.
Today the band continues to make headway and one day hopes to negotiate a record deal that makes sense.
