Godgory Bio

Vocalist Matte Andersson and drummer Erik Andersson (no relation) formed Godgory in August 1992 as a cover band playing songs by legends like Napalm Death and Entombed. Not until April '94 did they start writing and recording their own music. With the help of Dan Swanö (Nightingale, ex-Edge of Sanity) they recorded the imaginatively titled Demo '94. After receiving positive press in 'zines, Godgory re-entered Swanö's Unisound Studio in November '94 to record Sea of Dreams. Due to an unfortunate amount of setbacks, the album was delayed until Germany's Invasion Records finally picked up the disc and released it in January 1996. Inspired by the record's mild success, Godgory once again entered Unisound and recorded Shadow's Dance. The band approached their sophomore effort a bit differently by recording each instrument separately as opposed to recording the songs "live" as on Sea of Dreams. The difference showed, as Shadow's Dance reached number seven on Rock Hard's Dynamite list.

Soon after the release of Shadow's Dance, Godgory found themselves reduced to two. The two Anderssons let guitarist Mikael Dahlqvist, bassist Fredric Danielsson and keyboardist Thomas Heder go, as they were all committed to other projects. Soon after, guitarist Stefan Grundel left to concentrate on school. Things looked bleak until Andersson and Andersson got wind that Nuclear Blast was interested in the band. They called up the respected label and almost immediately struck a deal.

In October 1998, Andersson x 2 entered Studio Fasaden and spent five weeks crafting Resurrection. Along with session musicians Dahlqvist and Heder (the same that had been released earlier), the band hired Fredrik Olsson to handle the "whispering" vocals. This was a natural choice considering Olsson had written nearly all the lyrics for the band. Resurrection was well received and placed number eight on Rock Hard's Dynamite list. After three albums, Godgory had gained momentum and tour offers came in; however, they decided to concentrate on new material and in October 2000 entered the renowned Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden to record the CD before you, Way Beyond.

On album number four, Godgory has nearly perfected their gothic/death metal mix, as evident by songs like "Tear It Down," Payback" or "Final Journey." With Way Beyond, Godgory has moved one step closer to establishing themselves as preeminent players in the world of underground metal.
