Paroxysm was formed in 1996. Created in an original manner in Longueuil in the suburbs of Montreal by Sebastien Tremblay (vocals), Gaston Gendron (guitars), Benoet Quevillon (guitars) and Eric Desrochers (bass). In 1997, Antoine Rousseau joined the group on drums allowing Paroxysm to have a complete formation. Then, Eric left giving place to Yan Racicot. In 1999, the group was ready to deliver ten compositions and to start performing live but found itself without a drummer, since the current one was involved in numerous musical projects.
From 1999 to 2001 the group tested various drummers and did not happen to find one stable enough for them. In the autumn 2001, through the magazine Sang Frais, Paroxysm met Franck Camus, a drummer settled recently in Quebec for musical considerations amongst other reasons. Franck played for various European Death Metal bands: Damn Nation in France and Feeling of Death in Belgium. The potential and the chemistry of Franck have combined very well with Paroxysm, at this point in time it was perfect match. Putting aside all their old compositions, they started new ones which have their unique character and are bearing both American as well as European influences.
Since 2001 the group is finally stable. In June 2002 at the Cafe Chaos with D-Conscience, Paroxysm delivered with conviction its first live show in Montreal, including nine new creations. Very aggressive and intense on stage, the group left its mark on several scenes of Montreal. It also had the opportunity of delivering a show in Quebec City at the Kashmir with Agony and in Rouyn-Noranda with Aphasia in front of an extraordinary crowd. Their intense, seizing yet melodic Death Metal has started to make its way on the local scene. In fall 2003, Paroxysm started to work on their first album. For the producer of their first album they choosed Jean-Philippe Latour who was introduced to them by Obscursis Romancia. The recording of this album, entitled Revelation is Denied, took place at the Studio En-Phase in Montreal. The visuals and design are the work of the artist Franasois Quauvillon, who\'s known for his work with Cryptopsy. Flo Mounier made some appearances on the album on back vocals, while Miguel Roy (ex-Cryptopsy) carried out the introduction Golden Panoramas and the outro. The refined sound, power and edge of Revelation is Denied will surprise the most demanding fans of extreme music. The album, launched in August 2004, is distributed by the label Great White North Records.
