In November of 2004, guitarist Mark Anderson and vocalist Michael Meadows began writing and preparing ideas for the next Ditchwater CD. "We took 6 months off prior to working together again. Right away we realized that new blood was needed if we were to take the band and the music to the level we had envisioned this time around." says Anderson. In December, Mike Friese was recruited for the second guitarist position. "Early versions of the line up did include two guitar players, and it was always the plan to go back to that format eventually" says Anderson. In February of 2005, Jason Angone was brought in to be the new drummer and the new line up began rehearsals for the studio sessions which were slated to begin that spring.
They emerged from the sessions in late June with the first new Ditchwater CD in 2 years. A 4 song sampler CD showcasing songs that will be included on the forthcoming full length CD. The new music finds the band going back to its roots, with the songs thriving on raw emotion while mixing all out aggression with beautiful vocal and guitar melodies. Also the new cd shows a diversity not explored on past recordings. "With our previous releases, we never got the chance to show all sides of the band musically. We wanted to make sure all the things that make us different were shown and heard on this CD." says Anderson. (who also handled the bass duties for the recordings)
With shows at Chicago's Metro, House Of Blues, and Double Door, Ditchwater has built a strong and loyal local following. Ditchwater has also toured Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Ditchwater has shared the stage with many national and top local acts. The band has received airplay all over the world and received numerous positive reviews from all media outlets.
The rest of 2005 will see the band very busy with continued touring and more studio work. A full length CD is planned for release in late 2005. Ditchwater has managed to defy the trends and stick to their own unique style of Hard Rock/Metal that only they can deliver. The new CD drives home the point with emphasis, it shows the return of one of the most explosive and energetic bands to ever come out of Chicago!
