SOUNDGARDEN to Rock Seahawks Home Opener with Halftime Show

Seattle's sonic legends join forces for a night of football and metal in a celebration of rock history.

As the Seattle Seahawks gear up for the electrifying return of football, they're pulling out all the stops for their 'Countdown To Kickoff' event on September 9. The clash against the New England Patriots at Lumen Field will not only mark the beginning of the regular season but will also see the legendary SOUNDGARDEN take center stage during halftime.

What makes this night even more special is the inclusion of Taylor Momsen from THE PRETTY RECKLESS and Mike McCready of PEARL JAM in the festivities. McCready will not only shred the national anthem before the game but also lend his talents to the halftime show, showcasing an unholy alliance of Seattle's finest. This partnership is in support of the Washington Innocence Project, further solidifying the Seahawks' commitment to community and rock.

Momsen, a devoted disciple of SOUNDGARDEN and the late Chris Cornell, had previously shared the stage with surviving members during a historic Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony. Their rendition of classics like “Rusty Cage” and “Black Hole Sun” has left an indelible mark on the metal scene, blending the past with the present.

Meanwhile, the remaining SOUNDGARDEN titans—Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, and Ben Shepherd—are hard at work on a new album, resurrecting previously unreleased tracks that feature Cornell's haunting vocals. Partnering with producer Terry Date, known for his work on SOUNDGARDEN's iconic albums, the energy surrounding this new project is palpable. With mixing sessions led by Joe Barresi, who has worked with heavyweights like SLIPKNOT and AVENGED SEVENFOLD, fans are in for a sonic treat.

Since their reunion in 2010 and the release of 'King Animal' in 2012, the band's journey has been tumultuous, especially after the tragic loss of Cornell in 2017. But as they prepare to unleash new material and take the field in front of a roaring crowd, SOUNDGARDEN stands as a testament to resilience and the enduring spirit of rock—ready to set the stage ablaze once more.
