Maynard James Keenan Expands Culinary Empire with Queen B Sushi

The Tool frontman dives into the culinary world, bringing sushi to the Verde Valley.

In a move that intertwines the gritty essence of rock and roll with the delicate art of sushi-making, Maynard James Keenan has unveiled Queen B Sushi, the latest gem in his growing empire that has transformed Northern Arizona into a cultural hotspot. Located in Old Town Cottonwood, this new venture opens its doors on September 4, 2024, marking the next chapter for the iconic frontman of Tool and A Perfect Circle.

Keenan, alongside his wife Jennifer, has been instrumental in turning the Verde Valley into a haven for wine and art aficionados. With Queen B Vinyl Café already serving as a mainstay for the local music scene—hosting acts like Khemmis and Author & Punisher—the addition of sushi was a logical next step. "Although I’ve been enjoying sushi since my days in Boston, circa 1987, my first Japanese tour wasn’t until 2000 with A Perfect Circle," Keenan reminisces, revealing his lifelong passion for this culinary art form.

At the helm of Queen B Sushi is Culinary Director Chef Brett Vibber, a culinary powerhouse with experience from high-end venues in London to Hong Kong. Joined by a talented team that includes Chef Chuhiro “Thomas” Kato, who honed his skills under the legendary Nobu, and Chef Sheridan “Sher” Chase, a local hero, the kitchen is poised to deliver an unforgettable dining experience. Keenan's initial hesitance to include sushi at the café was overturned when Vibber proved to be the perfect match for the vision.

This sushi sanctuary will not only serve exquisite rolls but will also feature a rotating selection of wines from Keenan's own Caduceus Cellars and Merkin Vineyards. It’s a marriage of flavors that reflects his commitment to elevating the Verde Valley’s culinary scene, much like he did with its burgeoning wine industry.

As Keenan continues to shape the cultural landscape of Northern Arizona, Queen B Sushi stands as a testament to his vision—where rock and roll meets fine dining, creating a unique experience that is as mind-blowing as one of his live performances. With more surprises in store, this is definitely a journey worth following.
