SEETHER's Dale Stewart on the Future of Albums: Singles or Full-Lengths?

By Jason
As the industry shifts, SEETHER's bassist reveals the band’s evolving approach to music release.

In a raw and revealing chat with KillerTube, SEETHER's bassist Dale Stewart laid bare the band’s internal struggle over the future of their musical releases. With the industry landscape shifting like sands in a desert storm, Stewart candidly addressed whether the band will continue to put out full-length albums or pivot towards a singles-focused strategy. "It’s something we’re actively debating right now," he stated, acknowledging the changing tides of music consumption.

Stewart elaborated on the arduous process of crafting an album, where the band traditionally invests months into writing and recording up to 15 tracks. The question looms large: is it worth it in an era where listeners often gravitate towards singles rather than deep cuts? "Old-timers like us still cherish full albums, but the younger generation? They’re all about that instant gratification of streaming one hit at a time. It’s a damn shame to see hard work relegated to ‘throwaway songs’ that never see the light of day beyond the album’s release,” he lamented.

He further mused on the irony of their situation. As a lifelong advocate for the album format, he recalls a time when music lovers would eagerly consume entire records. Now, with streaming services at their fingertips, the paradigm has flipped. “It’s a new world,” Stewart reflected, acknowledging the challenges faced by seasoned artists as they try to adapt. Yet, he remains optimistic, recognizing the unprecedented access fans have to music today.

In the meantime, SEETHER is not resting on their laurels. This past April, they unleashed a digital-only EP titled "Beneath The Surface", a fitting complement to their acclaimed album, "The Surface Seems So Far". This EP features unreleased tracks like "Into The Ground" and live cuts that encapsulate the band’s electrifying live energy.

With their latest album, SEETHER has solidified their legacy in the heavy music scene, continuing to deliver the visceral blend of aggression and introspection they’re known for. As they prepare to hit the road supporting STAIND for the "Break The Cycle 25th Anniversary Tour," fans can expect a mix of classic anthems and fresh material that showcases their commitment to evolving while respecting their roots.
