Vicious Rumors' Larry Howe Exits Amid Cancel Culture Chaos

The veteran drummer's departure highlights the dark underbelly of political divides in the metal scene.

In a shocking revelation during an interview with Hart O' The Matter, Larry Howe, the longtime drummer of the formidable power metal outfit Vicious Rumors, unveiled the tumultuous circumstances surrounding his exit from the band. Just four months prior, Vicious Rumors made the announcement that Howe would be stepping away due to 'personal political ambitions' and 'extreme views' that had drawn ire from promoters, leading to the cancellation of upcoming gigs. The band initially pledged that Howe would fulfill his commitments for the U.S. leg of 'The Devil's Asylum' tour, which kicked off in late February and concluded on March 28.

However, the narrative took a darker turn. On April 7, the band released a statement claiming they had transcended the 'toxic political environment' that has wreaked havoc on relationships, businesses, and bands alike. They asserted that 'Larry Howe has chosen the music over everything else,' promising a tour across Europe this spring with Howe behind the kit and the mic, focusing solely on the band's impressive 47-year legacy and leaving the political fray behind.

But the band’s optimism crumbled as concert cancellations continued to mount. On April 16, Howe made his departure official, taking to Facebook to declare, 'CANCEL CULTURE WINS AGAIN. I WILL NO LONGER BE DRUMMING FOR VICIOUS RUMORS (for the foreseeable future). THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.'

When asked about the events leading to his exit, Howe reflected on the band's storied past, remarking, 'It's been a rocky, tumultuous affair from the beginning.' He nostalgically recalled the early days of Vicious Rumors' rise from the Bay Area scene in the '80s, where camaraderie and the love of music fueled their passion. Yet, he candidly acknowledged the personal trials he faced, including a complicated relationship saga that added to the band's internal struggles over the years.

Howe didn't shy away from discussing the political views that ultimately led to his fallout with fans and the band. He expressed his disillusionment with what he termed Trump Derangement Syndrome, criticizing the irrational beliefs that he encountered within the community. 'I lost a lot of friends because of it,' he lamented, underscoring the divide that has permeated not just Vicious Rumors, but the entire metal scene. As the world spins further into chaos, the shadows of cancel culture loom ominously over the realm of heavy metal, leaving artists like Howe caught in the crossfire.
