The pioneers of drone metal, Sunn O))), have officially returned with their first piece of new music in years. The band released "Butch's Guns" this morning, the lead single from their upcoming studio album, which is slated for a late 2026 release via Southern Lord. The track serves as a massive, tectonic reintroduction to the duo’s signature wall-of-sound aesthetic.

Founding members Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson described "Butch's Guns" as an exploration of "maximum volume and minimal movement," staying true to the experimental ethos that has defined the band for over two decades. The track features the familiar, sub-harmonic resonance that fans have come to expect, but with a sharpened focus on textural density that hints at a more claustrophobic and intense direction for the full record.

While a release date and title for the new album have yet to be revealed, the arrival of "Butch's Guns" signals the start of a new era for the group. Along with the digital release, Sunn O))) has announced a limited-run 7-inch vinyl for the single, which is expected to sell out quickly among the band's dedicated following.
