Tesla's 'Homage': A Sonic Salute to Rock Royalty

The hard rock titans pay tribute to legendary vocalists with a new album that blends nostalgia with fresh creativity.

Get ready to crank up the volume, metalheads! Tesla, the stalwarts of American hard rock, have announced their upcoming album 'Homage', set to drop on July 17, 2026, via Frontiers Music Srl. This isn’t just another record; it’s a powerful musical thank-you to some of the most iconic vocalists who have ever graced the airwaves. From Elvis Presley to Freddie Mercury, and even Etta James to James Brown, Tesla is pulling out all the stops to honor the legends that shaped their sound.

In a recent conversation, guitarist Frank Hannon shared insights on the album, highlighting that 'Homage' is not just a nostalgic trip down memory lane but also a bold step forward for the band. The album kicks off with a brand-new original track titled “Never Alone,” which Hannon describes as deeply resonant and capable of touching anyone who listens. He emphasized the positive vibe that vocalist Jeff Keith’s lyrics bring, a much-needed antidote to the negativity that often permeates today’s world.

“If Tesla released an acoustic version of 'Never Alone', it could easily become the wedding anthem of the year,” Hannon quipped, hinting at the band’s penchant for reimagining their tracks in acoustic form. With a history of transforming their classics into stripped-down versions, Tesla is clearly not afraid to explore different sonic landscapes, making each song feel fresh and relevant.

As the album was being recorded, bassist Brian Wheat crafted 'Never Alone' towards the end of the sessions, showcasing the organic, collaborative spirit that has always defined Tesla. Hannon explained how the process typically unfolds: one member strums some chords, and Jeff, like a creative magnet, is drawn to them, spinning out melodies and lyrics that encapsulate the band's ethos of hope and positivity.

Remarkably, while the band has been playing music for over 40 years, 'Homage' represents a new chapter, paying tribute to soul-stirring vocalists rather than revisiting their own past cover band days. Hannon reflected on how, back in the early '80s, they primarily played covers to secure gigs, mixing them with their original material. Now, they stand on the shoulders of giants, bringing classic songs like Queen's “Spread Your Wings” into their repertoire, a project that Brian and Jeff have long dreamed of realizing.
