MASTODON NOMINATED FOR TWO 2018 GRAMMY® AWARDS
As announced today, Mastodon received two 2018 GRAMMY® Award nominations. The Atlanta rock band's critically acclaimed seventh full-length labum, Emperor of Sand [Reprise Records], earns a nod in the category of "Best Rock Album," while the opening track "Sultan's Curse" is nominated for "Best Metal Performance." This brings the group's career total GRAMMY® nominations to five. The 60th annual GRAMMY® will be broadcast live from New York City's Madison Square Garden on January 28, 2018 at 7:30pm ET/4:30pm PT on CBS.
Emperor of Sand remains both a critical and commercial success for the quartet. Not only did it become the group's third release to bow in the Top 10 of the Billboard Top 200, but it also earned their best first-week sales to date with more than 43,000 units. It also debuted at #1 on the Billboard Rock chart as well as #1 on the Physical album chart. Among widespread praise, Pitchfork claimed, "Emperor of Sand's balance tips back to what Mastodon built a reputation on," while Rolling Stone described it as "Their most ambitious in years." Loudwire placed the record at #2 on its "25 Best Metal Albums of 2017," and it graced What Culture's "Best Hard Rock & Heavy Metal Albums of 2017" list. Moreover, the boys covered the inaugural issue of the recently re-launched Revolver Magazine this fall.
