VOLBEAT's Michael Poulsen Unleashes DOMINUS Vinyl Collection and New Death Metal Project ASINHELL
For a quarter-century, Michael Poulsen has been the thunderous voice and six-string shaman behind Denmark's relentless rock juggernaut VOLBEAT. With a staggering catalog of nine full-length albums and millions of records sold, Poulsen is a titan of the modern metal scene. But before he donned the mantle of rock royalty, he was the driving force behind the ferocious death metal outfit DOMINUS, which unleashed a barrage of four savage albums in the mid-'90s.
Now, in a move that will make collectors and death metal aficionados alike salivate, all four full-length DOMINUS albums—"View To The Dim" (1994), "The First 9" (1996), "Vol. Beat" (1997), and "Godfallos" (2000)—are finally being pressed on vinyl for the first time ever. With only 500 copies and a scant 30 signed test pressings available worldwide, this is a rare opportunity to own a piece of metal history. Each album has been meticulously remastered for the vinyl format, complete with restored artwork that reflects their brutal legacy.
Set your alarms for September 4 at 3 p.m. CET / 9 a.m. EDT, because these vinyl gems will drop at Volbeat.dk and at your local record store. And for the die-hard fans, DOMINUS t-shirts are also up for grabs on the same site, while the albums have already begun their digital assault on streaming services.
Not content to rest on his laurels, Poulsen has also been hard at work on his latest project, ASINHELL, a band that channels the raw power of his death metal roots. After crafting a slew of death metal riffs while developing VOLBEAT's 2021 album "Servant Of The Mind," Poulsen dusted off his darker inspirations and birthed ASINHELL, whose debut album "Impii Hora" (Latin for 'Ungodly Hour') stormed out of the gates in September 2023 via Metal Blade.
In a twist that showcases his collaborative spirit, Poulsen sought out the legendary Marc Grewe, former frontman of MORGOTH, to take the reins on vocals, while enlisting Morten Toft Hansen of RAUNCHY to unleash a drumming onslaught. The chemistry was instantaneous, and the trio quickly transformed their ideas into a full-fledged sonic assault. With Poulsen’s masterful songwriting and the band’s relentless drive, they captured a cataclysmic energy that reverberates throughout "Impii Hora." Metal Blade's Brian Slagel recognized the magic immediately, ensuring ASINHELL would be a priority in the heavy metal landscape.
