The Gauntlet: Tell me about the origins of the band. How did the whole project come together?

One-Way Mirror: We had known each other for a long time from playing shows together in France. Guillame had decided that he wanted to create something closer to his musical influences, so he called some of the best musicians he knew, and they all thought that his ideas for the band were pretty cool.

The Gauntlet: Who are those musical influences you mentioned?

One-Way Mirror: There are a lot. Pantera, Rage Against the Machine, a mix of everything. We just play music we love to play. Members of the band like everything from brutal death metal to hard rock. We're playing something fresh that we couldn’t do in our respective bands.

The Gauntlet: How did the Metal Blade signing come about?

One-Way Mirror: It was pretty easy actually. We sent a bunch of CDs to labels all over the place and attracted a lot of interest from many of them. Nuclear Blast and Century Media were interested, but we really wanted to be on Metal Blade. We wanted to be on an independent label. We wouldn't have felt comfortable on a Sony or EMI.

The Gauntlet: Tell me about the new video for "Destination Device."

One-Way Mirror: We didn’t have time to build a set. It went really smoothly, though. We’re French so we're not used to really professional people (laughs). We feel like the video is powerful and efficient, but not that original. We chose to shoot "Destination Device" because we feel like it’s the main song on the album. It really captures the eseence of the whole thing. The next video will be for "Empty Spaces" in September or October. We like to do videos because we can really express what's going on with the sound. We can tell a story.

The Gauntlet: What are the touring plans for the album?

One-Way Mirror: We're working on some European tours right now. We have a bunch of shows upcoming in France first of all. Our goal is definitely to tour in the U.S. later this year or in 2009. We have all toured in the U.S. in the past, and we love it. We feel like the music we play is very popular in the U.S., and we'll feel most welcome there.

The Gauntlet: Who would be dream tourmates?

One-Way Mirror: Metallica, of course! Guillame actually opened for them with his other band, Mnemic. We'd love to tour with Megadeth as well, or Killswitch Engage and Lamb of God. Killswitch is pretty similar to our style, and they draw a lot of people. We don’t really care who we tour with, as long as the bands are cool and draw people.

The Gauntlet: How is the French metal scene doing these days?

One-Way Mirror: Really bad (laughs). The past 10 past years have been pretty bad, but there are some really good bands coming up right now that are resurrecting the scene. Gojira especially. There are seriously like 40 or 50 kickass bands coming up.
