Tony Danza Tap Dance Experience Interview

By Dave Huffy

What happens when you get Meshuggah, Soilent Green and Lynrd Skynrd to mate? Well you get a tap dance extravaganza of course. The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravagance hail from the desolation of Tennessee to bring about another way to experience heavy music, one that doesn’t fall short of triggering that involuntary heavy gland in your brain. The elaborate band name speaks for itself and the curiosity is constantly egging you on and when you finally get around to checking out this band, it will all make sense.

TheHXC spoke with Butler of TDTE to discuss the hobbies and thrills of Tennessee and its motivational attributes as it applies to the band’s rusty chevy shot gun blast sound and the best Tony Danza TV moment.

TheHXC.com: Your bio reads like you guys are solid men of the woods, is
there a lot to do in Tennessee?

TDTE: We are originally from Louisiana and you hear on our CD what there is to do there, not jack shit. We got run out of town like Rambo for doing what we do, no music there just bag a 10-point and take picture of it. Now as for Tennessee, we only go out when there is a full moon and a chance we will catch a bar fight.

TheHXC.com: Where would you say you derive your technical jazzy breakdown rocky style from?

TDTE: Meshuggah, Living Sacrifice, Pantera,Crowbar,Sweet Tea and mud hogging.

TheHXC.com: It doesn’t seem easy to really pick out what category Tony danza tap dance belongs to, would you say there have been any accurate comparisons?

TDTE: As long as you keep the word ''hardcore'' out of your mouth...we're good.

TheHXC.com: Are you guys planning on touring on the east coast more?

TDTE: Preposed tour plans are as much as 2 weeks in April in the NE area,... and as much as 3-4 weeks out west in July.

TheHXC.com: Your full length was released by Corrosive Recordings, how did the label get involved?

TDTE: Eric ''Big Fern'' Fernald contacted us expressing interest and here we are.

TheHXC.com: The hints of southern rock are clear; do you have any preferred southern rock bands?

TDTE:
Corrosion of Conformity,Crowbar,Down,Acid Bath,Soilent Green,Pantera,Clutch,Hank III,Hank Jr.,Johnny Cash,Bocephus,Lynyrd Skynyrd

TheHXC.com: What did you think of “Who’s The Boss”?

TTDE: Moment of Brilliance... ' She's out of Control'' ... watching Tony Danza preserve the sanctity of his daughters virginity....Who's the Boss was sweet too.

TheHXC.com: Do you guys ever play the theme to “Who’s The Boss live”?

TDTE: Nah, that'd be overkill.

TheHXC.com: When is the 5 song demo being re released?

TDTE: Like every other band that comes out lately that doesn't feel like they get enough sells, they release the same damn CD and call it a digipak and put in a nice package and expect kids to run ass over end to nearest record store to pick it up when it is the same CD. We have 2 coming.

TheHXC.com: Are there more recording plans coming up soon?

TDTE: We are in the studio now with our very own Jason Dietz recording a 3 track demo that will be only for labels.

TheHXC.com: That’s all on my end, is there anything you would like to add?

TDTE:We are really proud of this new stuff and I think with this next cd we will totally get our point across to what we are trying to do and the feel we want the listener to have. Chainsaws, geese, deer carcasses, roadkill, treebark, and big rigs to name a few.

Also, we have a new website in the works by our good friend Cracker Jon from Monroe, La. and the (mysterious) flash guy. We have new merch coming through Zambooie.
