Legendary British heavy metal band Iron Maiden has officially been named as one of the inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2026, marking a long-awaited recognition for one of the most influential metal acts in music history.

The announcement confirms that the pioneering group, formed in 1975, will finally join the prestigious institution after years of fan campaigns and repeated nominations. Known for their elaborate stage shows, literary-inspired lyrics, and the iconic mascot Eddie, Iron Maiden helped define the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement and became one of the most successful metal bands of all time.

The band’s lineup—featuring bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris, vocalist Bruce Dickinson, guitarists Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, and Janick Gers, along with drummer Nicko McBrain—has remained one of the most celebrated forces in heavy music for decades.

Iron Maiden rose to prominence in the early 1980s with landmark albums such as The Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, and Powerslave, records that blended aggressive metal with complex songwriting and historical themes. Their 1982 album The Number of the Beast in particular propelled the band into global superstardom and remains one of the most influential heavy metal releases ever recorded.

Over the course of their career, Iron Maiden have sold well over 100 million records worldwide and built a reputation for relentless touring and massive international fan support. Their albums often explore topics ranging from mythology and literature to war and science fiction, contributing to the band’s distinctive identity within the metal genre.

Despite their massive commercial success and cultural impact, Iron Maiden had not previously been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, something that many fans and musicians have long criticized. The 2026 induction is seen by many supporters as overdue recognition of the band’s contributions to heavy metal and rock music as a whole.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is expected to take place later this year and will celebrate Iron Maiden alongside other artists selected for the 2026 class.
