I Am Your God Unleashes Melodeath Fury on Iron Maiden's Classic
In a thunderous continuation of their Foregods cover series, Finnish melodeath juggernauts I Am Your God unleash their fierce rendition of Iron Maiden's iconic track 'The Evil That Men Do'. Released under the banner of Out Of Line Music, this explosive single serves as a tribute to the forefathers of extreme metal and showcases the band's unwavering commitment to their craft.
Originally penned by the legendary trio of Bruce Dickinson, Adrian Smith, and Steve Harris in 1988 for the album Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son, 'The Evil That Men Do' has stood the test of time, resonating with metalheads across generations. I Am Your God breathes new life into the classic while channeling their signature melodeath sound, maintaining the essence of the original—a balancing act that epitomizes the Foregods project.
For guitarist Matti Hietala, this cover is more than just a tribute; it's a personal pilgrimage back to the roots of his musical journey. Iron Maiden ignited the fire that led him to pick up a guitar, making this particular track a poignant choice. "When we started discussing cover songs, we knew we had to include bands that shaped us, and Iron Maiden tops that list. Matti's suggestion of 'The Evil That Men Do' was a no-brainer—it’s energetic and a blast to play," the band reflects.
The upcoming EP, Foregods, is set to feature five tracks from five monumental bands that are etched into the DNA of I Am Your God. Joining Iron Maiden in this homage are titans like Children Of Bodom, In Flames, Sentenced, and Dissection—each member contributing their pick, resulting in an EP that stands as both a tribute and a declaration of identity.
Following the lead single, a cover of Children Of Bodom’s 'Are You Dead Yet?', released on the late Alexi Laiho's birthday, 'The Evil That Men Do' is a testament to an active year for the band. With performances lined up at Rockholm Festival and the prestigious Summer Breeze Open Air in Dinkelsbühl, Germany, I Am Your God is poised to honor the legacy of Iron Maiden on stages that echo their influence.
