Helloween's Michael Kiske Unleashes Details on 'Giants & Monsters'

In a recent sit-down with Brazil's Rock Mania, Helloween's iconic frontman Michael Kiske pulled back the curtain on the creation of the band’s latest opus, 'Giants & Monsters', which stormed onto the scene in August 2025 via Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM). When asked if this follow-up to the 2021 self-titled release was a joyride to write and record, Kiske didn’t mince words: "[It was] easy. Much easier than the one before," he declared, reflecting on the band's rejuvenated chemistry after years of collaboration.

Kiske elaborated, stating the initial insecurities that plagued the band’s early days have dissipated, allowing for a more organic songwriting experience. With a treasure trove of material at their disposal, choosing the right tracks for the album proved to be a challenge, yet Kiske revealed that they are already 90% done with the next record. This prolific output is a testament to Helloween’s relentless creative spirit and productivity.

As a seasoned artist, Kiske admitted to a habit of moving on quickly from completed projects. "Once it’s done, I usually don’t listen to it again," he explained. However, during recent festival travels, he found himself revisiting both 'Helloween' and 'Giants & Monsters'. He was pleasantly surprised by his fresh impressions, noting, "It’s almost like a fan would listen to it because you haven’t been listening to it." Kiske emphasized the album’s unique vibe, asserting it doesn’t merely regurgitate past glories but instead channels an invigorating energy and creativity.

Recorded at the hallowed Wisseloord Studios in the Netherlands—a venue that has hosted titans like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest—'Giants & Monsters' reflects a refined evolution of Helloween’s sound. Kiske confidently stated the new album is less overloaded compared to its predecessor, hinting at a more straightforward and organic listening experience.

The 2021 self-titled album marked a new dawn for Helloween, reuniting classic lineup members Kiske and Kai Hansen alongside the established talents of Andi Deris, Michael Weikath, Sascha Gerstner, Markus Grosskopf, and Daniel Löble. Upon its release, the album soared into the Top 10 across more than ten countries, including Germany and Sweden, solidifying Helloween's legendary status in the heavy metal realm.

To cap off a monumental year, Helloween immortalized their performance with the live album 'Live At Budokan', which hit the shelves on December 13, 2024. Capturing their electrifying show at Tokyo's Nippon Budokan on September 16, 2023, it serves as a fitting tribute to a band that continues to redefine the boundaries of heavy metal.
